The list may never end if one was to list everything that is wrong with society these days., but can you identify the greatest issue, in your opinion, and why a solution must be found for it? What are the possible repercussions for allowing this problem to fester?

Yes, the fact that many people take what the news states as factual irrefutable evidence and preach how everybody else is misinformed. My solution? Turn off the television and simply love your neighbor.

SGT Joseph Gunderson I have a problem with the mentality that everyone deserves a prize, that we all deserve good jobs and pay without working hard for it, that everything that I want should be free, and paid for by those who have more than I have. The solution is to hold people accountable for their actions. It would be great if all parents taught the difference between right and wrong, the value of hard work and determination, to be backed up by schools teaching and holding students accountable.

This issue concerns Texas and automobiles (blinkers). I would like to develop a policy where automobile manufactures develop and implement an automatic blinker system that activates when the driver moves the wheel. Next I will tackle on ramps and off ramps and the education level required in order to master this feat.

Well, just one observation of mine. Do you notice that people don't talk to each other any more? How many times have I watched people of all ages walking with that "smartphone" glued to their pie hole walking into bushes, traffic, each other. I have watched in restaurants as people sit across from each other with that stupid thing in their hands. How about the Gym! Does anyone else get annoyed when you try to work out only to have some self important male or female sitting on a machine with the "smartphone" in their face? On the streets, you can't even ask directions as people look at you like you're a serial killer. I doubt however that this one thing could ever be "fixed" How did we, as a society ever fall into this trap.

Lin my opinion, people think too highly of themselves and have a mentality that they are entitled to “XYZ.” The solution? I don’t know there is one. To an extent, I believe all humans suffer from this form of pride. One thing that helped me was traveling abroad and seeing what it is really like to live without basic NEEDS, not WANTS being met.

I think people take things too personally AND more importantly they have a platform to instantly respond. If I had a dollar for every time I erased a post or a remark I was about to make Id have several more dollars than I have today unfortunately if I had a dollar for every time I posted it Id have several dollars as well. Just because someone has a point counter to mine doesn't mean they're attacking me, simply that they think differently. Some of the best conversations I've had on here have been with people I disagree with but more often than not it ends amicably. When things get heated people need to disengage for a moment and look at the words and not the perceived meaning we as the reader are applying to their words.

Parents need to stop blaming teachers for everything that is wrong with their children. Instead they need to take a more active role in their children's lives and school work, and hold them accountable for their own behavior and grades.

We are failing to teach our children the relationship between freedom/liberty and responsibility. Return civics classes to our schools. Real civics, not the indoctrination that passes for civics these days. Stress the importance of taking responsibility for the exercise of liberties, taking responsibility for the consequences of our choices and actions, and all other problems fade into manageable proportions.

Personal accountability... it doesn't matter what the issue is, but as a society we seem to be so bent on blaming all our failings on anything else.

You can see it currently in the gun control issue. Instead of holding the person accountable for their actions, we like to say "this would never happen if we didn't have guns".

But we've been saying the same thing for literally generations.

Rock and Roll was turning our children evil...
Then it was the Dungeons and Dragons turning our children evil...
Then it was the sex and violence in television...
Then it was the violent video games or just video games in general...
Then it was because we "overmedicate" our children...

We keep making excuses for people instead of holding them accountable for their actions.

It's not your fault you're fat. Society has unrealistic expectations of beauty.

As parents, it is our job to raise functioning members of society. As they branch out into the world more and more whether it's through public schooling, extra curricular activities, whatever, our influence over them isn't going to be 100%. But it still remains our jobs as parents to ensure that they don't have bad influences in their lives.

We also have to remember that our children aren't always going to be "our perfect angels". So when they step out of line, we need to hold them accountable instead of making excuses for them.

This is just me and you have to remember I am not right in the head but I don't think the identifiable issues are that bad in the scheme of things. I believe it's the many thousands of non identifiable problems in society that tend to gel for short periods of time and disrupt and concentrated group effort to make society better or nicer. Like Alfred said in the Batman dark night movie "Some people just want to watch the world burn". That particular group has been growing larger for centuries. There really isn't a solution to them, we just need to isolate them and mitigate the damage that they do. They will never truly be gone, its the human condition and the nature of the faulty cogs. It would be nice, but boring if we could somehow get everyone on the same sheet of music but when many are setting fire to the sheet its hard to bring harmony to the choir.

Political Tribalism.

Meaning....

First of all, the two-party system is an issue. It is creating massive problems for the republic. Take what John Adams said in a letter to Jonathan Jackson from 2 October 1780:

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."

Back then, he was very aware of what we're seeing here in 2018.

Americans are separating into these warring factions on both the left and right side of the political spectrum. You can see this in the news every day. You can see it by the abhorrent behavior witnessed in the run-up to the 2016 Presidential election. You can see it by the way people deal with each other online and in some cases, in person. Our universities are becoming hives of "voter generators" for one side of the spectrum and kids are being used as pawns in political discourse on both sides of the house.

Something needs to be done.

If we continue down this path? Someone is going to be full enough of themselves when they take the Presidency that they are going to do something egregious such as directly and clearly violate the constitution or attempt to overthrow the Republic.

If that day ever comes, we'll need to act.

But as a way to stem this, something must be done about the political tribalism. People need to get off their respective high-horses and learn to be able to have open discussions and debates with those holding opposing viewpoints so that way we, as a society, can reach a logical conclusion with one another. Because for those of you on the far left? You sound fucking crazy. Period. For those of you on the far right? You sound fucking crazy. Period. Those of us in the middle are, frankly, getting sick of it. It needs to stop.

How do we do this?

I don't know.

But the tribalism is getting worse and is only going to continue to hurt the Republic in the long run.

The inability of individuals to have an intelligent discourse on matters of which they disagree. I have always been of the mind that I am willing to agree to disagree if you can give me sound logic & facts that back up why you feel a certain way about a given issue. Passivity is my biggest anxiety. While the left pushes and pushes their socialist agenda, the right sits passively and allows it to happen, day after day. In particular, I am upset over their (the left) attacks on religion and gun control. The left inhibits the "wall" being built in favor of open borders and sanctuary not just for the poor immigrants but for thugs, felons and other scofflaws. Our politicos are incapable of or unwilling to reform our immigration laws or to protect our borders.
We need to establish the facts (done), acknowledge that congress is ineffective, (done) and give ICE,BPS and whichever other law enforcement agencies the funding, tools manpower and leadership to enforce the existing laws until such time as congress is able to pass new legislation, legislation that does not surrender the rights of our American citizens, nor does it place the support of these illegal immigrants on the backs of the taxpayers.

We need to start by making voluntary single parenthood unfashionable. The term "baby-daddies" and "baby-mammas" and the connotation thereof, is deplorable. Then we need to start teaching children their responsibilities before we start teaching them about their "rights". Proper regard and understanding of rights can only be viewed through the lens of responsibility, and this has been lost in the age of entitlement. We also need to begin a campaign to rid the education system of the term "democracy". This was intended to be a republican form of government with a constitution to guide those in government. Yes, there is a smattering of democratic process to our system, but once we lose ourselves to total majority rule, then the individual's rights will be left to the whims of the masses. Repeal the 17th Amendment so that the senate is chosen by the state legislatures as originally intended and thus further strengthen and protect the electoral process at large. I could go on and on...

Man this one is no can of worms, its a ticking time bomb! Hum, where to start? First off everyone who has posted so far has a very legitimate issue, the only problem is each one feeds off another one.
40-50 years ago America had a belief system that worked, over time a "minority" rose to abstain from that belief system. We were a country founded on the values of GOD, Country, and family. Now more people believe in Santa Clause and the damn Easter bunny than in GOD. You can't say the pledge because it may upset someone or exclude someone. And as far as America goes, well that's the politicians fault. This has gone on so long that we have become a divided nation and we are moving farther and farther apart, almost to the point of no return. Then what are we going to do? There is no vacant land we can steal and take over, so it is up to us "WE THE PEOPLE" to somehow fix this broken machine. I'm a firm believer that history repeats itself, and if that is true then we are on the cusp of another civil war with a cataclysmic outcome. So bad in fact, Lincoln will have had it easy in comparison.
