I’ve found that going in blind is sometimes a good thing on academically intense courses. Like not developing any “bad habits” beforehand. Just show up and let them teach you. The curriculum is is designed to set you up for success......let it do that by not getting ahead of yourself. Good luck!

I reclassed from a 19E to a 13F back in '91. My map reading skills were a benefit, but being open to learning new things will help the most.

Land Nav, Map reading, and basic commo aspects. Crucial in the job. If you have a good understanding of those things the rest will be easy for you.

I wouldn't worry so much about what to study, unless you want to get cracking on your six elements of CFF or the 15 subs.
Do you have access to a .30 or a JFIRE?

Map reading using mills and the call for fire live fire if you actually do one is what causes people to fail the most. Your already 13 series so you probably know mills already.
Focus on terrain assosiation as everything hard you do will play off that. You train CFF on a big screen that takes up most of a classroom wall like a video game so being able to look at the screen and then map and understand is key.
As a reclassify you may or may not do joint fires training.If it's Sill you go to you will fo JFO training. Joint fires training is the hardest training you will go through as an fo is about calling air support for rotary and fixed wing. And without somebody teaching you it can be complicated to study on your own because of all the situational variables.
The best thing you can do is pay attention in class and then learn the way your unit wants it done when you get there. because even in regular call for fire you learn the 6 elements of the call for fire but in most missions you only use the first 4 and it's not in the training format they teach you.
I know you want something more specific but every time I thought of something I remembered the exceptions or variables so it's best to learn as you go in many cases and never view something as law as there is almost always an exception or variable
It's only hard if you dont want to study

Finished AIT there in April, all I can say is really pay attention during the call for fire portion. It’s the meat and potatoes of everything. The call for fire trainer will get repetitive but it helps a lot and just fine tune your skills. If you’re sharp with a map and can process information quickly you will have no problem at school. The JFO section was by far the best part of my AIT section, take lots of notes because being JFO certified is what makes you stand out. Hope you do well!

I been out of this for awhile but the FM 6-30 is everything you need for ait for the ccf portion, things to remember at ait like the soldier creed for fisters is 6 elements call for fire and the 15 subsequent corrections, you will learn what they mean at ait but try to remember in order...or work on your pushups and flutter kicks

You're kind of screwed already. We've got some guys who came from that reclass ait who were setup for failure because they were taught by National Guard instructors. But you'll end up learning most of the job from your unit anyway. If you do want to get a head start check out fm 3-09.30
