Do you have to attend a promotion board?

I was told you have to attend the promotion board when you hit 11-12 months TIG for SPC. If you don’t go , then you will be chartered out. Is this true ?

You have to attend the promotion board once you are eligible (within your primary zone). If you do not attend you are supposed you be barred from reenlistment. If within a years tine you still havent atended you are supposed to be barred from continued service. Not the same as a chapter.

Get into ALARACT 114-2017 on the HRC Enlisted Promotions page so you can see the exact details of it. It's an important document to know because you will soon be counseling soldiers on their promotions

If you value serving your country and not having a monkey on your back the rest of your life, then yes. It would only benefit you to show up. If you do not want to be promoted just answer poorly and your smaj and 1sg will think your are a turd till you leave. Or just study the topics they put out and pass your board. If you no longer wish to be in the military just finish your time with honor and pride and leave. Not trying to be a bungus, but just telling it how it is.

I was scheduled to attended a promotion board for E5 back in the day, however, I needed to reenlist for 3 years
