Do you have to take an APFT 30 days before School?

I'm about to head to BOLC and there is some concern as to whether I need to take a PT TEST 30 days within my report date at Fort Lee. Is there any validity to this? I took a PT test in OCT and passed with a 285. Is this required for all NG soldiers?

If you can pass, it is always better to take a PT test before and right after arriving somewhere.

Most schools require a passing PT Test dated within 30 days of your report date. It isn't just a NG thing, it is Army wide, including the Reserves. My advice would be to contact the school directly and verify the PT requirements. You may also be required to take a PT test to graduate, depending on the length of the school.

It is a pretty standard requirement, sir. If you scored a 285, you have little to worry about.

Its pretty standard. Our Battalion does one at 90-60-30, this way they know that they are sending someone that can pass, and usually they will raise the standard. Need 60's in each event, our unit makes you get 70's, always plus 10, this way you know that the service member will pass once they get there.

I don't know the actual requirements (probably change from unit to unit, anyway).
I could see you unit wanting one prior to sending you...as for BOLC, they aren't going to turn you away - every school I went to had a PT test as part of the curriculum.

The requirement is twice a year, nevertheless a commander can have them every month if s/he wants; not recommended!

Unless it has changed in the last 3 years, APFTs are given during the first few weeks of any major school.

Most schools require you to have one within 30days of your class start date.
The Reserve Commands have been hit hard with Soldiers being sent back for not meeting the APFT-H/W standards, and in this time of low funding every BDE/BN Commands don't want to "toe-the-line" explaining to their Higher why a Soldier got sent back home for failing APFT or H/W.

You will take an APFT within the first two weeks of starting BOLC and two weeks before graduation. Depending on the Installation you may also have to do group PT with your TAC. FT Lee has its BOLC and CCC students doing it 5 days a week to include PRT, it's a tracked item that the CASCOM tracks and may come spot-check.

Yes if they are NCOES schools esp. 60 and 30 days out just to make sure you pass once you are at the school if not then your state will get dinged and will funding for the next fiscal year.

It is standard for most ATRRS courses. If you got a 285 why are you stressing over taking another one? You will take another one at the beginning of the course most likely anyways...

Sir,

I am reporting to recruiting school next Monday. I was instructed to take another since the last was over 30 days ago before reporting to school. It normally stated
that you need a test 30 days prior to attending a school and you get tested again. Within the first week or so.

It would be a unit requirement. However, refer to the ATRRS info or school MOI for more info. If it isn't a hard requirement, but your unit wants one maybe they will allow you to negotiate based on prior performance and work issues.

Thanks for all the info everyone....I'll be taking one this weekend as it is a Command driven desire to have all soldiers perform a PT test 30 days before school. My COC told me that it wasn't a requirement but I don't want to be "that guy" and especially..."that officer".

Check out tradoc 15-10.
You are not required to take a Pt test before school but you are required to pass one upon arrival to your class.

Taking a Pt test prior to attending a school is not a requirement in any regulation, however you will be required to pass a Pt test when you arrive to the school house.

Usually any school on the pre-execution checklist it says 30 days out. In fact I think it now says 60 days out.

Yes, read the regulation, if you don’t know, get with your schools NCO and they will show you.
