I like UFC and other variants but when at Buffalo Wild Wings, I don't want someone to talk to me about their "MMA career".

MMA Douchebag:
Any kid who "thinks," he's a badass, and can can kick anyones ass becuase he took 1 MMA class at his gym.
These kids threaten to fight someone, but will almost always backoff If the other person agrees to fight.
Or by mistake they threaten the wrong person, and end up getting thier ass kicked by a real badass.

I am a novice so I will opt not to fight unless I can use a gun. Over the years I have met a few and was talked into rolling. I have done Judo and had my ass kicked since a young age so I can hurt someone enough to make they not like it even if they "win". I like to hurt bullies and really like to embarrass wanna-be bullies. So when pressured to fight, I am beyond angry.
To avoid the MMA douchebags there are several indicators:
1. Maybe he is mad because you are having too much fun during combatives and he is going to teach you a lesson.
2. He has bought all the gear, Tibo workout cd, and wears a t-shirt. But like valor, fighting skills can't be bought at the PX.
3. He talks about fights, repeats Vin Diesel quotes from Knock Around Guys. He quotes Vin diesel period.
4. He walks up to you in the gym and corrects you on how you are doing your crossfit style exercise. He tells you how he is better.
5. Knows the fight stats of every MMA fighter and has not fought himself.
6. Believes MMA is the answer to life and every day situations.
7. They refer to MMA as its own form (which it is not; one studies several forms that you apply together).

For you entertainment a real MMA Douche that actually made it.. before he got pooped on.

Had a dream in which I relived being "taught" a ridiculous arm bar move where I proceeded to tie the guy up for 20 minutes while his girlfriend watched. He was wasting my and a friends time. He walked up and said let me show you something. What I was doing was showing a friend how to slap someone when they tried to do the take a gun away move. Another Douche in my friends MITT was annoying him with his ninja skills.

I have to agree that a good percentage of guys wearing Tapout shirts are tools and tough guy wannabes. Though, I don’t think all that train or just follow MMA can be painted with the same broad brush. I train BJJ, but at an MMA school. The MMA guys I know there tend to be laid back and pretty humble.

I disagree that MMA isn’t its own art or at least moving in that direction. I know it started as several arts trained and then used in combination, but there are MMA fighters that train in MMA that don’t specifically train in other arts by themselves. MMA has combined techniques from several arts and merged into a new one. The most common techniques come from BJJ, Muay Thai, wrestling, and western boxing.

The Problem with MMA is is that it has no realistic strategy for armed assailants... multiple combatants... or people that fight outside the rules of thier discipline... What does the MMA person do against multiple shooters? He has no plan because they don't account for that.

I can only comment based on 35 years of hard earned experience in the field of Martial Arts/MMA having been a mixed martial artist long before it was "popular" and turned into a rampant SPORT event, that I have had the amazing displeasure of meeting more than my share of "MMA Douchebags". Many of them are still in the military. Sad, indeed. Just about anyone can train to fight a single person inside a controlled environment, with rules and regulations governing how the fight should be conducted. I have learned that in a REAL hands-on altercation there are NO RULES, and someone is more than likely going to the hospital. I think these so called bad-asses of which you speak may realize that at some point in the bleak dark parts of their minds, and that someone standing up to them triggers the mechanism that warns them, "oh, crap, I'm about to go to the hospital"...and then all the back-pedaling begins. I've seen it when I was a bouncer years ago, as well as when I was a bounty hunter and private security detail/psd team member (civilian based) back in the '90s. People are always real verbal badasses until you SHOW them you are ready to bring the pain. Just my humble opinion.

I saw this too and that is not how a real martial arts student would act. Martial artists have a high level of discipline and this guy lacked everything. In my experience you never have to worry about the talkers it's the strong silent types you need to be afraid of. It was nice seeing this guy get his butt kicked by a classier individual.

One of the reasons I refuse to watch UFC, MMA, or anything of the likeness is because inevitably, if you go to somebody's house for one of these events, people will morph into the MMA Douche and a sparring match will ensue.

I have been to two such events, and both times, "I could do this! I would kick these dudes asses! Here, I bet I could get you in [HOLD/SUBMISSION MOVE X]."

I've ran into a few of these idiot's.....I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE COMPARE MMA TO COMBATIVES....It's not even close. Everything that is illegal to do in the octagon is what you use in real ✋ to ✋ combat...I've been trained since I was 12 yrs old. I'm a certified police tactics instructor. I have 3 black belts and working on the 4th. But don't get it twisted. In the street and in the battlefield I'm going to break out into take your do..I'm going to chop you in the Adams Apple. And while your trying to breath I'm going to destroy you.... MMA is not COMBATIVES....
