Basic, IBM Assembler, Cobol (multiple variants), Java and Java Scripting, Apex, VB
Honestly Cobol is still the easiest for me to code in, it was my first language.
I like the Sencha tool coding extJS is good for desktop and mobile devices.

Going to carbon-date myself here: I learned Fortran. On the day of our final exam, it was completely replaced in lieu of new, faster, simpler languages.

I like Python even though its white space rule is annoying. It's great to play around with and takes very little time to type something up and try it. It's fast and versatile. Obviously it's a great fit for pen testing and running small tasks or even typing one up on the fly.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member - depends on the task and the environment. I've worked with "low-level languages" (assembly) to the higher "interpreted langages" (Python) and the in-betweens (Fortran, Pascal, C, C++, etc.) All have strengths and weaknesses. The advantages today of (relatively) fast processors and cheap memory give us the luxury of the interpreted langauges that are easier to learn, read, and debug. However, for speed and minimal memory usage the compiled languages typically have the advantage.

SQL -- it has the advantage of being arcane enough to scare off the easily intimidated and yet important enough that proven mastery of it (and the associated data-centric mindset) commands a salary premium.
In other words, just like COBOL, except not even close to being thought of as a dead language yet.

And the size of the pay premium tends to be determined by the dialect(s) you have mastered. PL-SQL pays best, but Transact-SQL still pays pretty well and is a lot more ubiquitous.
