I refuse to let whatever is causing the overwhelming emotional response come back into focus. That happiness of memories like playing with my kids, and the annoyance I feel at being triggered usually help me get back into a balanced state fairly quickly. I go to my mental health provider regularly now... When I squeeze, depress or manipulate mine it makes my Glock 19, LaRue OBR, or AR15 go bang. I manage them by keeping them clean and well lubricated.
