Or, Did you research it on your own and self-study?
I was a Marine first. Marines take a very strong interest in history, so it's been instilled in me to self-study, and I have researched the history, and major battles of every unit I have been assigned. Do you think knowing the history of your unit should be taught be the unit? Required or optional? Do you know the history of your unit? 2014-12-04T02:14:43-05:00 SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member 354355

If you know the history of your unit, was it taught at your unit soon after you checked in? Each picture told a different point of history in how unit. I think it should be in the initial unit orientation. Gotta know where you came from to know where you're going. AFA. celebrated our 200th. Birthday.
We were the only unit that was authorized to fly Battle Ribbons from both the Union and the Confederate Armies.
We were also one of the few units that had served in every conflict that the US Army had been involved in. I think my unit was created in the 60's. We used to be a CSB now we're a CSSB, used to be HHD now we're HHC. The best I can find is the General my Armory is named after. I know my unit got back from Afghanistan in 2010, and they were awarded a MUC.

In BCT I learned the history of 1-46 INF and the Americal Division (23 ID) and in AIT I learned the history of JAG, so I'm curious to learn the history of my unit, but it seems to be taking longer to find that information.

I'm also trying to compile a list of important Army, National Guard, and general military dates, accomplishments, and birthdays just as a kind of fun fact thing. For example 16 Sept coming up is POW/MIA Recognition Day.
