The MISSION Act strengthens VA’s ability to deliver trusted, easy to access, high quality care at VA facilities, virtually through telehealth, and in your community. That means you get the care and services you need, where and when you need them.

The VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act, or MISSION Act in short, strengthens VA’s ability to deliver trusted, easy to access, high quality care whether at VA facilities, virtually through telehealth, or in the community. VA has developed specific education for Veterans about receiving VA care, health care benefits, and other related updates as the MISSION Act went into effect, June 6, 2019. This educational booklet is titled “Health Care Options Through VA.”

I fear this could lead to eventual "privatization" of the VA, a favorite Republican goal.

I’m not getting the changes, only a lot of what we think we want to do, but no details yet. Are you planning to provide more in depth information with a way to screen out the chaff? I suddenly lost my cardiologist with no replacement.

As a spouse of a veteran and a healthcare provider, I am happy the lack of and delay in care for our veterans has been acknowledged as a real issue, but I want to know specifically what changes were made to improve their access. I visited the official website and see they can now possibly access "Non VA" providers and I noticed the VA is requiring prior approval. It'll be interesting to see the percentage of approvals for the "community care". Part of my position requires me to conduct peer-to-peer reviews of denied procedures. From my experience with insurance companies, the mission seems to be to deny as many as possible. Besides allowing possible access to Non-VA providers, what has this act changed? I will be happy if my skepticism was displaced.
