I find the story interesting then I look back at the 2005 BRAC that closed Fort McPherson/Gillem in Atlanta, GA. Outside of the VA nothing else has happened with McPherson and the Army Corp of Engineers and the EPA are odds about contamination at Gillem affecting the local community.

BRAC hasn't been a fair process. It is based on political power.

I read the article MAJ (Join to see) and it is interesting how this type of subject gets blocked.

Although my question is was this not done with the BRAC? If not then it was not properly evaluated then.

The problem with BRAC is Congressmen and Senators who have installations in their districts that fight to keep them. Remember all recommendations in a BRAC must be approved by Congress since BRAC in itself is a law.

It all boils down to POLITICS! SGT Jim Z.
Too bad it could not be what is best for the Country. I understand it would suck for the economy in those Districts but it is about the Nation as a whole.

It was not properly executed.

I agree BRAC is all about the politics and backdoor deals. If BRAC was done correctly and did not require congressional approval I could see it working. Until then great concept and theory piss poor execution.

Unfortunately there are too numerous locations like this that we have no idea exist. What is going to happen to all of the buildings that will be vacated by the 80,000 reduction to the army?

I hope someone is thinking about this.

I laugh because when I got out active I thought I would never live on another military base. But my local Air Force Base had empty houses. As an M-Day Trooper I live on Base. Barksdale AFB is built to hold more air craft but many were moved to justify small antiqued air fields. Hence extra housing.

So I got out and now only wear the uniform 1 weekend a month. I also still have access to AAFES and MWR.

While on Active Duty, I used to wonder during my 18 hour days who really uses that stuff. Well I happen to have job that keeps me busy but you want I could find out.
