LCDR (Join to see) great question, I would say I do, in preparation for retirement, I did a whole lot of planning and its paying off. It's great to set long-term and short-term goals. Time waits on nobody.

Long and short and for lack of a better term medium goals are important for sure to helping realize goals. Sometimes I make ones that are a little too far off with no help to get there.

As I deal with measure and metrics all the time, this is a prevalent theme. I have applied this to my financial planning to eliminate my debt and so far I have been able to pay off 2 debts completely and 2/3 of another so using this methodology seems to work well.

Learning to make SMART goals was perhaps the most valuable part of my college education. The version I learned was slightly different: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
