Do you need to have years of experience in a certain MOS to be a warrant officer for that branch? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/do-you-need-to-have-years-of-experience-in-a-certain-mos-to-be-a-warrant-officer-for-that-branch

I'm gathering all forms of information to me so that I can grasp a true understanding of the warrant officer process. Here is my story:
I am a sergeant promotable with 9 years of Total Service. Six and a half years being active duty Infantry while two and a half years for the reserves as an engineer. My time has passed for me to be a Prime power specialist so I believe the next best thing for me to go back into the world of the engineers is to become a warrant officer (also for career advancement and the love of crafts along with being the man with technical expertise). Discovering new information led me to this question: Do I need to have more years of experience as an engineer or do my MOS qualifies me to be a warrant officer for the engineer branch?
Any information is greatly appreciate it; I would love to hear everyone's answers from a professional perspective and personal experiences. If you have any civilian experience in your MOS put it in your packet. The Army Reserves does allow you to use years spent in a qualifying civilian job in addition to Army your MOS. Another would be, it depends on the person and their service branch. I had thirtee years of service and 8 of them as an NCO. However, I was in the Air Force, and aplied for a Warrant appointment and transfer to the Army in 1969. The Army needed my skill set for Viet Nam,and the pld Army Security Agency, now INSCOM. I recieved my appointment in May 1970, and was in Viet Nam in June! Here’s my advice. Go Flight Warrant. If you have a 110 GT score take the flight test (AFAST) or whatever it’s called now and look into being an aviator. Pick up a study guide first though. Another option is transferring to 11C then after a few years experience put in for FA (Radar) Warrant. Or go SF then put in to be an SF Warrant. Lastly, you can reup to go back to engineer (Warrant feeder MOS) then put it in that way. If all that fails OCS will be happy to take you in with a 4 year degree. Good luck! CW4 Angel C. It is true that Aviation is the only branch without prescribed feeder MOS’s as an enlisted soldier. That said, their are very rare exceptions to the rule.

After my Aviation related injury I was permanently grounded. I contacted various other Warrant Branches and submitted my case. I did have positive momentum with CID and Game Warden AOC’s (the only two that interested me outside of Aviation). My college education in Biology and Chemistry, experience as a Ford scientist, and several years of law enforcement and investigations really opened up a few doors for me.

In the end I decided to take a direct commission. The point of my soliloquy is this: There will always be unique factors that can be taken into consideration when applying for and being selected for military positions.

Goarmy.com and HRC Warrant Officer Recruitment and great resources to learn about jobs, determine qualifications, and find POC’s who can put you on glide slope for the career you are interested in.

Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something.
