Do you now have a lot of self-respect as a result of having served in the U.S. military? Do others respect you?

I have always had a lot of self-respect and pride in Serving in Vietnam as a Combat Vet and finally, after so many years, others finally respect all of us who served in that God forsaken War! It took over 40 years before anyone ever thanked me for my Service or ever said "Welcome Home!"

I live in a small village (moved here 14 years ago) I have been the Commander of the American Legion Post here for the past 5 years. Because of that everyone in the village seems to know me. And the respect I get seems like more than I ever had before............

I, like so many others, am very proud of my service in the military. Whether someone serves just four years (like my oldest brother) or "goes the distance" and is in for 20+, we should all be proud that we made the sacrifice for our nation.

When I was younger, I had little self-respect. As I aged, I grew to respect myself - and I found that others followed suit. When I look at others, I see the same.
