Do you remember Jonathan Pollard?

I do, I remember my exact thoughts when the news hit the airwaves. Perhaps it was my youth and lack of experience regarding the evils in this world. I couldn't understand how someone could betray their country.

Jonathan Pollard is the naval intelligence analyst who sold secrets to the Israelis. He came up for parole and has been granted the right to be released from prison. At 61 now and having been out of the intelligence community for years having of course this huge black mark against him I don't think he is going to be a threat, but that doesn't mean I have to forget or forgive.

** I have to return to this post, I was interrupted and didn't get to finish it. Most shocking to me is that Pollard and his wife both said they felt it was their duty to spy on the U.S.. Since his incarceration the Israeli government has continually requested leniency for him. Here is an example of such a request. "I intend to continue to act with determination for the release of Pollard, both because of the State of Israel's moral obligation to him and so that he can live with his family and restore his health after his prolonged incarceration," Netanyahu said in a statement released on December 21." He was granted Israeli citizenship while in prison in 1995 and Netanyahu has requested that he be allowed to move to Israel immediately. So it seems Mr. Pollard will end up well taken care of in the end.

Poor guy, what is he to do.....where does he turn now?
Scenario: Jonathan Pollard wants a job, cant get hired at wally world so tries his luck with a federal job where * balm * he doesn't need to disclose his record.....what a great deal.....did the crime, paid with time, now its time to forgive and forget, hell lets help get him a government job....would you see a problem with this CPT Private RallyPoint Member?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. time out!!! Jonathan Pollard DID NOT SELL secrets to the Israelis, let's get that straight. Jonathan Pollard was rightfully convicted of espionage after it was discovered that he was WORKING FOR the Israeli government as THEIR spy within OUR intelligence network for which he was paid for services rendered. I remember the whole sordid affair because I was in military Intel at the time of his trial and conviction. What really pissed me off and has every year since is that we gave Israel $400 billion in foreign aid the year he was convicted. We still do, and they are our best friends in the Middle East!?!

Pollard may have made money during his employment by the Israelis, but what I remember as significant before, during, and after his conviction was his paid position by the Israelis, ALL WHILE the Israelis are getting billions of dollars in foreign aid every year from US, their supposed ally. We should have bid Israel a hasty Good-Bye and Good Riddance.
