Water dripped off our helmets hitting the tips of our noses. It was annoying and everyone was soon fidgeting in ranks.

Soon, I noticed the men in front of me squaring themselves away and assuming a proper parade rest. Glancing between the files, I could see our company commander standing like a statue, sharing the same discomfort without any apparent break in discipline.

In time, our entire company was standing tall and stock still while the WACs on one side and the airborne troops on the other continued to fidget.

When the order to pass in review was announced, we snapped to attention and marched in perfect order. Much better than anyone would expect from a BCT company.

We later heard that our company commander received a letter from the post commanding general complimenting him on the performance.

It made us even prouder that we could help win him that recognition.

He was a helluva leader... Campbell,Ky it was activation day for the 101st Abn Div in Aug 1956. Gen Maxwell Taylor brought the 101st Abn Div Colors from Washinton,DC and presented the 101st Abn Div Colors to Gen Sherbourne. On that particular day, the 101st Abn Div was brought back from deactivated to an active Abn Div. The Div was part of 18th Abn Corps and one of the first Pentomic Abn Div . Nearly all of my active service was with the 101st Abn Div and I retired at Ft. Campbell,Ky in Oct 1977. My first Pass in Review was at Fort Campbell during Week of the Eagles in 2012. It was the 101st's 70th anniversary. CIA Director (and retired General) David Petraeus gave a very moving, inspirational speech that was timely motivation for our deployment a week later. I've been in two reviews since then, and they paled in comparison.
