Do you salute the flag in the morning at 0630 for reveille on a garrison base even if the sound doesn’t go off?

Here at Fort Eustis, the sounds for the start of the duty day and end of the duty day, have not played for the past 5 months. I have had my platoon saluting even with no sound or flag visible. I have referred to AR 600-25 and AR 600-20, but I can’t find anything on what to do when there is no sound at all.

If there is no sound does the flag still get raised? Of course the flag gets raised. Seems that whether there is sound or not you know when the evolution takes place and do what you are supposed to do. In fact you are teaching the platoon a valuable lesson. I applaud you for being conscientious.

I would suggest your team leaders set a alarm in their watch/phones, squad leaders as well as platoon leaders have a recording in their phones. when appropriate (outside) based on team leaders warning the squad/platoon can take action use compass heading toward HQ or TOC. Sometimes the book doesn't have the answers thats where good leaders read between the lines.

I had the same issue in Korea. The Audio system was intermittent. So we simply rendered honors at the appropriate time. If you know it's happening, the fact that you can't hear it doesn't absolve us of our responsibilities to render appropriate honors, especially if you're at the head of the formation.
It's an important lesson for the young'uns. Integrity. Doing the right thing, especially when your formation is looking to you for guidance ;o)

If you can definitively determine that the garrison flag is going up or down I would salute.
