It would be as silly as saying if the board could check your Facebook page to see if your profile is up to army standard and there would be even a point of contention in everything you post or every photo you have. The posts or sphere of influence you have in rally point is just a page where military come together and can have an honest opinion on things that affect us or matter to us... Not because it should promote us for promotion in any way. You would have to know a troller versus someone who is sincere in their content and delivery. If they took the time to properly document their profile page and act appropriately on social media, they can be taken seriously. Versus a troll with no picture or a hardly recognizable one and an empty profile, I wouldn't take seriously. Neither would necessarily be a candidate for promotion, but it can be a good starting point into their character. All employers these days review, or pay someone to review various forms of social media to determine who someone is in all facets of their lives. That is why it is imperative that you portray yourself the way that you wish to be seen and temper yourself in your questions and responses. This does not mean you have to be someone els, it simply means that you have to be professional. Every soldier has a bad day, and they vent or act out in ways. You have to look at the whole soldier concept. Is the soldier a performer, leader, good example for younger soldiers to follow. Everyone on here has argued, sparked debate, and at one point or another made someone else angry on social networking sites. You cannot hold a soldiers social media page or actions against them for promotions. If it bleeds over into work then yes you can. But you have to realize, on here everyone's name and rank is visible, and if SPC Tented wants to get disrespectful, then he can. But he needs to remember that most of the NCOs and Officers in here have been around for a minute and know a lot of soldiers around the military, or SPC Tent peg could show up next month to my formation. He is sowing his own roots. But do not hold it against him for promotion. Lol, just kidding. There are boards, that committee members, sit on for that. If the question is about conduct in social media, then yes it can get folks into issues in the military.
