As leaders, we need to know who our Soldiers are and show some interest in their careers, families, etc. Do you spend quality time to talk to them or not? This discussion came from our Post CSM that shared his thoughts on getting to know the Soldiers that work for you much more better. Great learning session from the CSM today.
The more you know about them, the more they respect you as a leader in the Army. Soldiers know when you truly care about them by taking time to discuss their career development and progression.

I can say I heard one of the most amazing stories from a cadre member at IBOLC. When he took command of a platoon before a deployment he asked his soldiers if he could break bread with them and their families. Not all the soldiers took him up on it but some did. He went to their place and ate a meal with them to learn about them and to reassure their families. I was in awe at what a great idea. It is hard to make time to do this. Especially in the Guard. I have resorted to social media to do this. It give them a picture of Eric Rosa, the family man and I get to see, Joe Smith, the college student.
I feel that you should know what you are fighting for. If not all of us don't make it back I don't want to lose a soldier. I would have rather lost a brother.
