CSM (Join to see) Victim has a negative connotation, where as Target implies that it could have been anyone. The word Target could make it more likely for a sexual assault to be reported.

Changing the term from Victim to Target will do nothing. I was an M.P for several years and the only way these cases will be reported is if the the victim of the assault comes forward and reports it. I have seen female assault victims who will not come forward and file report for fear of it may hurt their career and might cause them to be black balled in their unit. All crimes against ANY service member male or female should be reported. Males won't report sexauly assaults because they feel that they will looked at as weak. The military is turning too P C these days with wanting to change terminology to fit the civilian world. Leave the terms alone and if a soldier comes to you about the situation do all you can to let them know that filing a report will not hurt their career or promotions. There are enough scum bags walking the streets in the civilian world. We don't need them walking our bases or posts to.

Males are not the only ones who do not want to be called victims. Changing the wording will likely result in more reported sexual assaults from both genders.

How so? I believe People are more worried about the stigma of reporting a sexual assault and/or being called derogatory names as a result of reporting (male and female) and then telling and retelling of the story over and over again forcing them to relive it. Not to mention the medical stuff one has to go through so the government can collect evidence.

I read recently that males do not like to be considered victims and this prevents many that have experienced a sexual assault to not come forward. The Bullying victim term is Target. ( http://www.workplacebullying.org )

SSG Bethany Viglietta - And is a normal thing in private industry. Further, it is legal and prevalent, from the most senior to the juniors in a supervisory capacity.

Yes as it formally indicates the person as weak.
