Do you think churches or mosques should be closed by the government if there is evidence of terrorist affiliation?

At first glance I thought "yes". Shut those babies down! But after a little thought, and reading some of the other responses, I think it would be wrong to assume everyone in the church or mosque is a terrorist. I had a DI in basic that would punish the whole flight for the screw-up of one guy. Good old Sgt Skinner. Anyway, all of us Vets have served for the right of many things, including religious freedom. So, if a church or mosque has evidence of terrorist activities, I think the authorities will have to dig deeper to find the guilty.. Ditto to Sgt Wade's & Tsgt. LaPointes comments.

No, because that's an insane power to afford to the government. You target individuals. Arrest the specific cleric.

No I do not.
While it is very tempting to do this...consider the radical consequences to our fundamental freedoms and liberties.
Clearly if this were done things would be different.
- If the British had taken that approach, we might not be Americans.
- If the US had been inside the Church, then Civil Right movement might have fizzled or taken a very ugly turn.
Either we have separation of Church and State, or we don't. The first amendment protects our freedom of speech. The second amendment the right of assembly., etc...those amendments (the Bill ifmRights) were out there to limit government control over the individual.
We have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. The risks this might represent are the cost of living in a free society.
