Do you think Officers and Senior Leader should have more influnence over their future assignments?

Do you think available/vacant assignments should be available online for all to view and select for his or her next assignment. I know the Army says that they choose assignments based on needs of the Army, Career Progression, and then Personal Preference but I think it would be easier if we could choose our assignments or at least have some options to pick from. Do you agree or disagree?

I believe it would be helpful to have more transparency for everyone to be aware of potential assignment options and perhaps some degree of input into the assignment process. But, in the end, the senior leadership must make the final assignment with best interests of the military. Also, certain sensitive assignment options cannot be made public.

I agree one hundred percent Chief, once you reach the rank
of SSG you should be able to pick from a list of duty positions and/or
locations. I think you should be submit your last NCOER and a copy of you latest
ERB to the BN CSM of your top three assignments and have them decide who they
want in their ranks. It’s no different than being a civilian applying for multiple
jobs to see how will call for an interview.

Definately agree, I have never seen an assignment come down based off career progression or personal preference. If you call branch they will only tell you one or two assignments if any. I don't know anyone who has actually gotten locations they request on ASK.

I don't know about ability to affect their OWN career...but commanders should have more ability to influence assignments, rather than a centralized personnel assignment agency.
