Part of my duties as a parent are to prep him for adversity. There are going to be challenges. I'm not going to be there. I need to give him the tools he needs to overcome those challenges. Coddling him isn't going to help him build the "callouses" he needs for that.

Sometimes I'm too tough, sometimes I'm not tough enough. It's a balance.

Never. I am training them for real life. Not everyone gets a trophy. They need to learn to suck it up a little.
