Do you think the Airborne tab was ever thought as being a individual's tab skill identifier (instead of a unit tab)?

Also the mountain tab as well so that even if you leave an airborne assignment you keep your tab.

The tab is a unit identifier, as it's part of the unit's patch. The badge is the individual skill identifier. You can have the tab but not the badge, or the badge and not the tab.

With the 101 changing to the "AIR ASSAULT" identifier 1 Jan 2017, a new beret following, and the culture in today's Army I believe the AIRBORNE, MOUNTAIN, and AIR ASSAULT identifiers will be "Tabs" within the next three years.

Nah, I think maintaining it as a unit identification is appropriate, more patches and badges is not always better...

Since I have never worn the tab, and since I have not the badge....I actually never put much thought into it.

I've never been Airborne qualified yet I've worn the airborne patch in two different units.

Always been a unit identification, the parachute badge is the individual, I never wonder why not the tab

Your Wings are what set you apart from nasty legs. The only thing that would change that in MHOP is if an actual Airborne Infantry school were developed to train troops to a higher level and thus earn a tab. Not likely at all though. Still it would be a great way to keep the higher Airborne Standard.

They may have thought about doing that. However, the Ranger Tab, Sapper Tab, and so forth that you keep are earned through intense training. The airborne tab is for the unit to have the Airborne status that ensures their ranking on the JA-ATT OML. I am sure it is something similar for the Mountaineering Training.

It would be nice if you could keep them, but you must remember that not all personal in the airbourn units are airborne. So it would be right for them to keep there tab when they leave there unit. The only tabs your are allow to wear always is Special Forces, Ranger, and I think Sapper. Those are earned by really had training and have special units. The military personal that serve in these units do not wear these tabs. You have to be qualified to wear them.

The Tab use to be an individual identifier back in WW2. The tab went with you. But your identifier was the sliver wings.. Then the tab later on it only stayed with the airborne unit patch.

You can have a unit patch without an airborne tab OR an Airborne Tab over a patch. Should be
