Personally, I don't care. And if I was in Trump's position, I still wouldn't care. (My position on record is that I think Trump should tell them all that he doesn't want them there. That would put them in the position of doing something Trump wants them to do by staying away, which would have to rankle them at least a little.)

But that doesn't mean their choices and actions will be free of consequences. I don't know right now what those consequences might be, but there are almost always consequences that are not anticipated.

I think it is disrespectful, they should be there for the office/position/President. I also think that it is just another step in their childish temper tantrum they throw every time something doesn't go their way. I think it shows just how childish and immature they are. I didn't (and still don't) like many of Mr. Obama's political ideas but he was still my President. I do not believe it is a good move whether you are on the right or the left. They are elected officials. If they are incapable of working with the President, then why should the President work with them. That being said, even though Republicans have the majority, if I were an elected Democrat, I would still play ball and keep up appearances. Because if it appears that I am trying to work with them, they may be willing to work with me.

At the end of the day, they are elected officials who are supposed to be representing their constituents, not their party. If I had the feeling that my representative cared more about pushing party politics than what's best for me and my state, then that representative needs to be given the boot.

I believe many have opted out because of pressure from fellow members of Congress and the Democratic political machine. It shouldn't have even been a question for a member of congress it is a tradition and obligation. After the last tn years the Congress has been basically impotent and has accomplished very little other than divide the country more each year. It is time to unify and work for the same goal the best for America and the people. To boycott the Inauguration of our President is petty and reflects bad on America to the rest of the free world. Grow up and do what you were elected to do. We are supposed to be the UNITED States of America, this doesn't make us look united.

Not really. They're sitting out the Inauguration as Members of Congress. Unless they know that most of the people who sent them to Congress would like them to represent them in that way, what they're doing is not in their constituents' interest. Eventually, these people will need to seek help for their constituents which requires help from members of the other political parties in Congress, but they'll be reminded of what they did on Inauguration Day.

Well it's not respectful but the Democrats have never really been all that patriotic to begin with as a group. I don't buy into the media saying their seats are safe. Just because they have not been challenged. So perhaps this is a good thing that they identified themselves early on and their seats can be targeted now. It does not bother me that much that they did protest as the effectiveness of the protest will fade quickly as we move into 2017.

That's between them and their constituents, if they even care about them anymore. It's not a first. They are just trying to keep up appearances with the majority that elected them. A very few may actually be doing it on principle, but it's mostly just for show. At least they are not blocking legislation as we have seen for the last 8 years, so it has little impact on the general public. With a Congress that has had approval ratings of 9% in the past couple of years, they are already at rock bottom. Many may be up for reelection in 2018 and this is just another way to gain political capital with their base. In broader terms it sets the stage for future expectations of our elected officials. Some day they'll figure out that we truly are stronger united, if it's not too late.

No... Like President Obama, President Trump is all of our president. We don't have to like it, but is our system. Someone wins, and someone loses every single election. Imagine if this happened with President Obama was inaugurated. That said, having never been to one on the dais, and so having to really on the media for this information, I also understand people have done so before. Nevertheless, I think all should attend. The Republican party has burned so much political capital in the past few years, they have very little leeway to criticize in my opinion. The inauguration ceremony is purely a symbolic move, but if Democrats choose to obstruct the next four years, just know they learned from the other side of the aisle. Refusing to have confirmation hears on supreme court nominee represented the end of goodwill for Republicans. The SCOTUS was crippled for nothing more than a show of political insolence.

It was strictly their decision to make, however, stating his election as President was illegitimate is ridiculous. The election was certified and Donald Trump was sworn in as President. Sounds more like sour grapes. The Democratic Party needs to analyze why their candidate lost. The fact that Sen Clinton had more popular votes mainly from large highly populated historically Democratic states is one of the reasons the Electoral College method. The results were President Trump won more states and total counties within the states. This conflict will always surface when a candidate wins the popular vote count but loses via Electoral College. In the future it appears more and more Americans will be registering as Independents.
