My post military career was with a large non-profit that had a volunteer corps that was twice the size of paid employees. Once you got past those that were doing volunteer work to meet some mandated requirement you got down to a dedicated group of volunteers.<br />Our volunteer coordinator once did a poll on why people volunteered and the mission of the organization was far and away the leader, which gets down to the former military volunteer. They totally understand mission driven operations, while at the same time bring a sense of dedication that is not routinely found in many civilian organizations.
