I did, but then I was the assistant supply Sergeant. Other than that I had no problem with our supply system.

On Active, some were okay, some didn't care. When I went into the Reserves, the 1st supply guy I dealt with was not only an ass, but a slob, who kept poor records which turned around and negatively affected more than a few soldiers.

The next guy was more organized, but he didn't really DO too much. It was a running gag around the unit that we quoted the highlight of his goodbye speech to us when he told us that if he helped even one soldier, to him "it was worth it". One soldier was probably about all he helped. The guy the unit has now, I wished I had throughout my military career, because he is organized, and competent!

SGT Private RallyPoint Member MY Best Supply Story. I was Attached to SPINTCOM CINCPACFLT (Communications for the 4 Stars N2 Intelligence) the Main Supply Depot for the Entire Pacific Fleet was just down the Street at Pearl Harbor. We Got a Call from them once "We Realize that You are CINCPACFLT but do You Really Need an Entire Jet Fighter, Do You have anywhere to Launch and Recover up on Makalapa Crater" Our A Brancher has Transposed couple numbers in the NSN and instead of a Part for a Teletype He Ordered a Jet Fighter.

If you can't trust them, then you are in a world of hurt. Just make sure the hand receipt is straight

The only problem we had with them is we would never get enough socks in the field RVN 1966-67 ,oh and then there's that C ration issue,not that we didn't get them,the problem was we did!

Absolutely. In all my years in the Army I learned that trusting your Supply Sergeant was smart. Of course, there's the double checking thing, but I can name you two I never had to check on in all my 25 years.

Well speaking from a 92Y stand point I'm going to say yes and no. The reason being is I consider myself to be they best quartermaster in the entire BDE (my NCOER's say as much). However some of my peers and subordinates do not have a passion for the job and they allow there personal feelings to get in the way of professionalism.

There was a time where I once did, then I helped reorganize the connex before redeploying home and realized he had hundreds of surefires, magazines and other things we had requested but never got. The next day our platoon magically had an extra magazine for each man and no one knew where they came from.

Be friends with supply and they might hook you up. And even if you trust them, be careful. Nobody is perfect. Yes, it's their job, but they could mess up. And it's money we're talking about here.

Being a Supply guy, I have to say there are a number of factors. What level he's at( BDE, BN, Unit...) will determine if their hand are tied or not. There are a few who become complacent and after awhile, forget why they're there and get sloppy. I'm in a position to think down range and make things happen for my battles. Proper planning and the fact that I give a rip gives me an advantage.

My people trusted me because I was the ish man!!! I just cared for everyone and that is how I got to know a lot of people in my Battalion, other Supply Sergeants and made deals and trades so my guys could have stuff.

In 2 I D. my unit hand receipt showed that I was signed for 1 lensatic compass (among other things). The supply sergeant couldnt account for some missing compasses and when I went to clear, found that he had used a pen to convert the 1 to a 4. In Panama we used the barracks attic for overflow storage of things like suitcases, etc. that were not desireable to keep inside the barracks rooms. I had a nice ski jacket in a suitcase up there (having PCS'ed from Germany). The supply crew controlled access to that area and when I went to retrieve my things, of course that ski jacket was long gone. At 1 I D. it was common knowledge among the lower enlisted in my unit that the supply clerk was an alcoholic and would sell you your hand receipt so he could party. Trust them? Sure! I never claimed to be smart.
