I didn't really like #6 - if I were to implement that one, I would feel as if there were tasks that were "beneath" me - and I never wanted to be like that. If the trash had to go out or the coffee had to be made, and it was there in front of me, I'd do it.
When I was at Bagram, I got a LOT of funny looks when I would pick up trash as I was walking about.

I like this post, sir. It's a topic near and dear to my heart, and it has been for many years. It seems to me that Kathryn McKinnon is a little too focused on the day. Stephen Covey (in "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People") recommends planning a week at a time, and then periodically looking even further out to set goals, etc. I like Covey's quadrant approach to time management. We have to beat back the tyranny of the urgent!

I love this video as it assumes that the "big rock" tasks are static and do not grow in scope and that I can not delegate some of my tasks. However it does explain why I feel like I'm not getting much done - It looks like I spent all my time on the "sand" tasks. I still like Dr. Covey -

Time management YAY! Something I have followed and believed in for a long time. I used to have bosses who thought to get ahead they had to work late. "We have to make a good impression." Well I agreed on the good impression but I always believed in work smarter not harder. Properly managed time can change a chaotic day into a productive one. I've seen it and I live it. I'm a full time student right now and time management and discipline are the two key factors in my life.

Now does the list work all the time... NO. stuff comes up, life happens. But even then if you take time, organize than execute you can accomplish anything. If anyone doesn't believe me, the first thing I tell everyone is to make a list of things they have to do, then a list of things they want to do. Prioritize and execute. Its amazing to see how people react when solid goals are set and things get done.

While this would seem to be a simple question, I must add that when my time is mine, I use some of the techniques I've learned; when it isn't (short notice launch of an aeromedical evacuation mission is an example), then any time management techniques are subject to abandonment due to the nature of the mission. Too many times has my time been "appropriated" to say I use the techniques consistently.
