. McCain suspects politics is involved in this case again and reading between the lines I bet Old John thinks the Obama Administration (Susan Rice) pressured the Pentagon to let Bergdahl walk and not do any prison time in Leavenworth.... just a hunch I have..

The military court system is the best in the world. No matter what McCain or Trump "Wants", They will get what they get and they have zero influence in there.

I was in Paktika when this guy went missing and we were looking for him, just like everybody else. He put an a lot of people in danger looking for him. I hope the courts take all that into consideration when they decide his fate.

I don't know what it would accomplish! There obviously have some higher force in play here (POTUS) other wise he would have been flogged already! I guess they are afraid that he will get to Leavenworth and the inmates might do something to him! oopps!

If Bowe Bergdahl is found guilty of desertion and walks that would be a travesty of epic proportions. I would expect some of those draft dodgers who fled to Canada rather than be drafted for Vietnam to be highly offended to say the least Sgt Tom Cunnally.
Because of double jeopardy I don't think Bowe Bergdahl could be retried and sentenced.
Hopefully if he walked the court of military appeals could modify the sentencing and impose significant jail time.

I think this is a mockery of the MCM. We all know what it says, and the Court Martial should go forward, if that is what the Approval Authority decides. BUT, and I say but, if it goes to Special or Art. 15, we have just wasted a lot of lives, time and money, for a Soldier, that under normal circumstances would have already been adjudicated.

As a taxpayer I find this idea to be a serious waste of money. The military has a justice system that functions and it needs to do its thing so the politicians need to steer clear of it. I have a novel idea, why not instead of pursuing pointless hearings on irrelevant matters try doing something like oh I don't know pass a balanced budget. Just my 2 cents.

I think I'm with a large portion of y'all in saying that this guy is guilty and should lose the promotion given to him and get a BCD (I'm on the fence about jail time, I think a BCD is MORE than enough for this guy).

That being said, I think that the results of a Court Martial should be respected... REGARDLESS of the outcome.

It would be completely different, however, if no Court Martial goes forward.

I find it interesting that he would pick this ONE incident to rally behind. With all of the sexual assaults that have happened, the SF troop being kicked out, and a myriad of other issues that have hit the Army, this ONE gets his attention? Maybe he needs to lay off the Arizona Iced Tea for awhile.
