Does 68W ALC Phase 1 (AMEDD DL) need to be completed prior to attending phase 2?

Most schools require done prior to being enrolled. However a few squeak by and have to finish before week 1 ends. My suggestion get started now and finish as soon as you can.

No but you have to complete it by the time you graduate phase 2.

I'm pretty sure that SSD2 MUST be completed prior to attending ALC phase 2. I am scheduled to go to 12H ALC at the beginning of March, so I'm going through SSD2 now. Yes, I've heard that some soldiers squeak into phase 2 without completing it. Most of the time, the SGL's will allow you to complete it while at the course, but they do have the right to drop you. SSD2 is tedious, but wouldn't you rather get it out of the way so it's one less thing to worry about once you get to the school? Not to mention the fact that you're taking the risk of getting kicked out of the course. We are leaders and have to set good examples for our soldiers. How can you expect your soldiers to take care of their business in a timely manner if you yourself cannot? Just food for thought.

things may have changed in the past few years, but I showed up to ALC phase 2 without completing phase 1. You will not be promotable, however, until you do complete the ALC common core phanse 1.

You have 90 days to complete it once you are given access to black board

I just left 68W ALC and if you have not completed it in the 90 day window you are given at the start of Phase 1 DL. Your phase 2 and 3 dates will be dropped.

Not necessarily, you would need to be granted permission from the Commandant, or his/her representative in only special cases. Once granted permission, then you will be notified that you will NOT receive a DA1059 or be considered course graduated until you complete the course in the designated time.

I spoke to the schoolhouse and they suggested completing Phase 1 (DL) first. As far as I understand, you will not get a slot in Phase 2 until you are on the PPRL, but you can request access to Phase 1 (DL) prior to being added. I don't have any reference, but that is how it was explained to me.

I would have agreed with SFC(P) Peter Sutherland last year, but things have changed a bit since he left the AMEDD NCO Academy (he was an outstanding SGL). I used to work with him and am currently the Ops NCO for the AMEDD NCOA. We used to take walk-ons to ALC phase 2/3 and then enroll NCOs in AMEDD ALC phase 1 DL. Since the implementation of the STEP program, things work a bit different now. In case you are not familiar with the ALC scheduling process that HRC uses, read MILPER message 16-089, and share with your battles. And there will be more changes to AMEDD ALC starting FY17. Is this all working the same way for the reserve components? I have a Soldier in my unit that I would like to get to go to phase 1commen core and get his DL done.
