Does a DD-214 show 'medical discharge' on it? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-a-dd-214-show-medical-discharge-on-it <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am possibly facing a medical discharge due some health issues. Does a DD-214 show &#39;medical discharge&#39; on it? I work as a Paramedic on the civilian side and am due to ETS from the guard in about 8 months. I am concerned that my DD-214 will read medical discharge&#39; and limit my chances of getting hired by simply having that on there, even if I can still do the job just as well as most other people... Any input would be appreciated!! There should be anything that says you were a medically discharged. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 01 Sep 2015 00:42:21 -0400 2015-09-01T00:42:21-04:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 1 at 2015 1:17 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-a-dd-214-show-medical-discharge-on-it?n=931481&urlhash=931481 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Ok, based on the facts you are giving here, you must specify if you are ETS from the Guard, or coming out of active duty (title 10, 32?) and then ETS?<br /><br />They will not issue you a DD214 unless you are on active duty. As far as this document, it is only for the period you lasted on active duty at the time of being released from it. I've got about 9 dd214's the last one from a WTU stint after getting hurt, and there is nothing there that shows that status. Just starting time, end time, schools taken, courses over 40 hours completed, all awards gained during military service. There are SEVERAL CHOICES as far as I remember... but I got out in 1987. You can have HONORABLE, GENERAL, .... something else? and DISHONORABLE. Just to give you a laugh, they actually MAKE a DISHONORABLE DISCHARGE CERTIFICATE. I was shocked when I found them while cleaning the file cabinet. Like, really, who would WANT one of those to frame and hang on the wall?? I remember because I typed one up as a prank, had an officer with a wicked sense of humor who was not part of the chain of command sign it, and mailed it out. LMAO, you shoulda HEARD the guy when he called and screamed like a maniac about the horrible mistake. I laughed and laughed. (He was a friend of my husband) I then told him to CALM DOWN, CARL. READ the name of the signing officer. "Captain so and so". Now, do you think that's for real? No. Oh, you got me. That being said, however... I seem to remember that the DD form 214 has a code on it for the reason of discharge. I'm not sure how specific that code would be... and really, a medical discharge during time of war as we are in now is not as limiting as that would be in peacetime.
