Does a mobilization to Kuwait for 400 days count as a deployment?

If you are talking about a combat patch, no Kuwait by itself does not count any more, heck I was there in 2014 it was like being on base back home to a point. Are you Active or Reserve, that will control how many days your deployment is. The reserves started doing 9 month tours in 2014 for some missions.

Kuwait is no longer considered an area to get a deployment patch. I have heard if you do rotate into an area that is considered a combat zone for a very short time, you can get one.

Strictly speaking, "deployment" refers to activities required to move military personnel and materials from a home installation to a specified destination. For all practical purposes it is a deployment. Does it meet all the criteria for a patch is another matter.

Although you don't get a deplorable Kent patch I believe you still get a GWOT Expeditionary Medal afterward. I consider any overseas assignments as being " deployed" just not a Combat one unless you get sent further while assigned there.

It counts as a deployment on your dd214 as well as your erb. You will not receive a patch though since as of fy14 Kuwait is an active duty PCS location for 1 year rotations, guard and reserve will complete 9 month missions there, and it is not a combat zone. You will receive the GWOT as well as the GWOT Expeditionary medal among several others when you return stateside. I just returned home from arifjan a little over a year ago.

It's not considered a combat deployment, so you won't receive a combat patch.

Yes. A "Mobilization" is being either activated from Compo 2 or Compo 3 and being placed on active duty. This can happen where the Service Member is stationed CONUS or OCONUS.

A "Deployment" is when the Service Member is mobilized and then stationed OCONUS. They are "Deployed".

Here are two regulations which will answer your question about the SSI-FWTS and stripes/bars:

Worry about that when you get home. You are paid to do a job. Do the job to the best of your ability and learn to do it better than you have done before.

Do a little reading. It will help you at your next board.

Was deployed to Kuwait in 2002-2003 pre Iraq and was forward deployed yp Afghanistan. Got the combat patch for Afghanistan deployment but not Kuwait. I was there when doha was standing down and arifjon was being stood up.

If you are still Active Duty, ask your unit Admin officer. BTW, never let anyone shame you for doing your duty and doing your job standing up. When you put your uniform on, be proud and stand up straight and if a service ribbon or campaign badge is missing, Mister "Your out of Uniform". Fix it on the double.
