Does anybody know of any Army programs that can help me pay for IT certifications (or offer some sort of discount on the course)?

I am looking to get certified in a couple of IT classes at my school. However, I don't have over 2K to pay for the classes. Anybody know of any army programs that can help me pay for the certifications or offer some sort of discount on the course?

I earned many certifications by teaching lower level classes at a discount rate in exchange for free admission to the classes I wanted. Started teaching desktop applications and worked my way up to major programming and systems administration certifications.

SPC Private RallyPoint Member Admittedly, I do not know how the Army works, but when I was a Department Head in the Navy.... I used to send sailors to schools that had a practical application to their jobs as well as if they got out. I had them show me how they could use it to enhance the unit (sent one sailor to locksmith school ($80k) because our CO kept locking himself out of his Top Secret safe), and then wrote the orders. I think if you can prove how it will help the unit with a new skill, they should be amenable to the idea... Out of the box, you may look at grants or scholarships from places like the VFW. One of my guys got a grant to go to a technical school from the local VFW (side note, almost no one applies for these things). Best of luck to you buddy!

I'd seen this awhilembqck, possibly on here, this is quite real, I believe, there are other examples for vets, however, this was the one I'd seen most often, I think it can give you what you want, from an IT certification standpoint....

Look at this also...if you've got a Bach in IT, I'm unsure how EIT/FE and PE licensure works for IT as opposed to comp sci (CS) or elected engrg (EE), I did mine yes ago, I've had it shut off a long while as I'm total perm disabled, the license that is...however, unlike IT certifications, a PE license can actually be used to operate a business in a fashion wholly different from IT certifications, the IEEE has consultant networks of PEs, I helped a good friend get his PE license, he's run his own consulting business for yes since, trust me, if you can get it, try, you'll be well rewarded, I think, by the effort, potentially, honest....

This is also a little known Federal exam I'd sent stuff in on awhile back, for those with science background, Bach or equiv, to let one be a patent examiner without being an attorney, you might find it interesting reading, however, a friend of mine tried it, it',#0s quite rough, he needs to retake it, he missed by a good many questions, plus, the training can be expensive, I merely mention it to make you aware of it, a PE license, however, of you do it in elected engrg (EE) wit sufficient experience, might be the more valuable way for you, I think, I just thought you might care to see this !material, as well, though....

Ask your credit union about lines of credit or personal loans. $2k is nothing considering what your going to get back in higher salary you should have the $2k in a year or two via increased pay I would think. When my brother went for Network Management courses I think he borrowed up to $5k and was able to easily pay it back. You should be rated an excellent risk by any credit union due to your current service in the Army Reserve unless your otherwise tapped out on credit cards.

What CPT Durish said is correct as well. If your attending a Community College and have the ability to teach a technical course that involves a skill your good at........they will hire you as a instructor and waive your tuition to the certification classes in some cases.

You might be able to use TA or your Gi Bill depending on your situation.

Some RC TA wi pay for it. More importantly, your GI Bill will cover the cost of certain certifications

Use SkillPort to study for certs you want. Once you do enough exams and get a high enough percentage you can put in for a voucher to take the actual exam at a nearby Ed Center.

PFC Gideon, if you are appointed to a Cyber related position on orders you are required to obtain and maintain certain certifications (A+, Net+, Security+, for example) and also Computing Environment training from SkillPort(https://usarmy.skillport.com/skillportfe/custom/login/usarmy/login.action) or (FedVTE). This computing environment training is related to the Cyber function you are performing like Windows 70-696 or 70-697 as an example.

Provided you are appointed to the position CIO/G-6 will provide you a voucher to take the commercial certification testing required. Get with your S-6 for more information.

Assuming you are in Reserves, VA education benefit chapter 1606 can be helpful. Your tests and certifications will be paid by this programs, but not the certifications training itself. There May be some kind of job training that will be paid for. Have a look at this pamphlet.
