I have been and always will be Captain Jack. I was a Coast Guard licensed "captain" before I even joined the Army (well, licensed operator of motor vessels for hire to be exact). I rose to the rank of captain before the Army had enough of me. And then Disney went and made a popular series of movies featuring Captain Jack Sparrow. I didn't stand a chance, did I?

You also didn't stand a chance when considering the old "Hey, hey Captain Jack. Meet me down by the railroad track..."

Bet you heard that once or twice.

I kind of like being referred to as Sgt some times by those who knew me in the military. In my personal opinion I don't think rank should be a limit on ones task or purpose. It's what you did while you were in each rank. There may be a lot of Generals but I know more war heros that had greater backgrounds.

My kids called me "Sarge" when they wanted to bust my chops.

I was Sergeant Mom, to all the local kids. Lol.

I always kept a set of class A's hanging proudly in my closet and the kids would ask about my service in the Gulf war. The youngest took a well worn pair of my combat boots to school once for show and tell. What a story they had to tell, his teacher said.

Nobody refers to me by my rank and most have no idea what rank I was when I was in. I only use it here because of the military nature of the site. I don't look at people differently because of their rank. I was a Corporal over 30 years ago. I've changed a lot since then.
