SFC(P) (Join to see) In this day and age of NSA electronic surveillance, satellites, computer hacking, etc I don't see any secrecy in military movements, resources or other assets, with perhaps the exception of submarines. Gone are the days, I believe, of secret deployments of carriers, airplanes, troops etc, notwithstanding any operational security imposed on SMs or local news black-outs. Our enemies, starting with our allies, and anyone else with modern technology probably knows the whereabouts of every Naval ship, AF bomber, or other military asset from ballistic missiles on down and keep track of them on a daily basis.

I agree and it is upsetting to me. It feels awfully counterproductive.

SFC(P) (Join to see) - About all each person can do is the best we can in the job we're assigned at any time. At least the higher-ups won't have to worry about us as individuals and whether or not we are pulling the load at our end.

Absolutely! Military Operations do not need to be front page news. As it is, the media broadcast troop movements and tell the bad guys we are coming or leaving.. and they can pull back till the strategy is not effective and then show back up. Yes, instantaneous transfer of information can be a bad bad thing.

MCPO Roger Collins - What about all the hatred directed at us by those that are not US Citizens? I am amazed that so many people want our destruction given all the assistance, food and aid that we give. But then in my view, Walk Softly and carry the Strategic Air Command, and in negotiations, we win...we win, and that is it.

I find it upsetting and frustrating at the very least....transparency is important...the success of a mission and the personnel involved? Much more so.

SSG Roger Ayscue - I am always stunned by the same thing...take our money and aid, ask for more, while also attacking us in very public ways.

SFC(P) (Join to see) - I am always stunned by politicians like the current inhabitant of Pennsylvania Ave who apologizes to the countries that attacked us and we soundly defeated then we rebuilt, apologizes to them that we fought back and beat them...I despise such weakness in those that should be leading. He was in his element as a community organizer for the local Comintern, but is totally outmatched in the game of global chess he is playing with Putin, like an inexperienced checker player playing chess with a grand master. The left wing so wants us to be weak, poor and in the third world.

You are entirely correct. Essentially at this point the media shapes how people think. Look at the recent incident with President Obama bowing in Japan during his visit, this would not have been an issue if media didn't make it an issue thusly leading to seemingly millions of Americans being outraged against this. Instant information isn't necessarily the problem here, it is the fact that the media responsible for putting this information out shapes that information before people even have a chance to formulate their own unique opinions on it.
