Like anything, people will look at you to see what you are about. Don't make it a guard vs active thing SFC Kenneth Hunnell Fri, 19 Feb 2016 05:49:21 -0500 2016-02-19T05:49:21-05:00 Response by MAJ Javier Rivera made Feb 19 at 2016 6:27 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-anyone-have-advice-for-someone-switching-from-army-guard-to-active-duty?n=1314056&urlhash=1314056

I did it in 1992, non issues whatsoever. Had to reclass which is what I wanted. For the family it will depend on your particular circumstances: most likely you will report first, complete any required training, go to your unit, settle-down , and then bring your family. With that being said pursue your goals and keep your head high sergeant! However, I attended ALC at Ft Sill, where I was the only national guard soldier in a class of twenty or so. I did experience a bit of tension, I guess. But, after the first week or two, that all went away. Once they see that you know your job and you can give back all the crap that they give you, it will be smooth sailing. I transferred from VTARNG to Active Army at the end of 2012 I can walk you through the steps. Once I get a free break tomorrow I'll try to answer as many as possible.
[login to see] SFC Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 23 Feb 2016 22:38:33 -0500 2016-02-23T22:38:33-05:00 2016-02-19T05:04:27-05:00
