What do the raw score numbers mean on the back toss? Are there alternate events? I don’t see these things being doable for people with shoulder/back profiles. Do you think someone could possibly do 2 miles after the sprint drag? I’m wondering if there keeping the 2 miles for now as a test to see. I am stationed at an AIT location Ft Lee, Va and heck the fail rate for the current APFT is high. Look, stop thinking that new recruits are much better equipped to deal with Mental and physical challenges. I witness this on a daily basis. Give them a cell or tablet test and now you are talking. The net result is that it’s going to be extremely difficult for units to get green on the new physical fitness requirement.

I looked at the test- it’s actually really cool, and I’m sure it’s a more accurate measure of fitness than the current APFT. That being said, it’s not going to work as a replacement for it. If it works administratively the same way as the current one does(I.E. 2x per year/you need a valid one to go to schools/send up packets/etc), people are just going to pencil whip it as needed because of its length and complexity.

The best way to make a new test would be to design it to be performed entirely with a set of free weights *at the most* and issue them down to the CO/PLT level to allow for maximum flexibility in performing the test and meeting requirements. I have recently took it and been certified as a Lvl 2 instructor for it. All I have heard is a lot of bitching and moaning about it, even from me the day before I had to do it. It is actually a helluvah lot better test then the APFT, especially the Sit-ups since it has been medically proven to be horrible on your body. You can find everything on it from google. There is no gender or age breakdown it is only broken down into 3 categories for the min standard on your MOS. Out of the 30 soldiers I took it with there was only 1 person who failed and she was old as dirt and couldn't do the leg tuck. Multiple changes have happened to it and will continue to happen to improve it. Alternate events are coming for it and once that in finalized it will pass through legal and be implemented army wide.
We had the same discussion about all the stuff needed for it and it seems like it will fall onto Brigades to have it passed down and handled. It is coming. You cant fake these events. You actually have to work out and get in shape (if you want a decent score, with it being age and gender neutral the minimum are dirt low.) I at first was against it, (still am only for the cluster that will be logistical stand point.) But all in all a very good test to see who cares about bettering themselves and getting/staying physically fit.

As for alternate events, about 2 months ago the SMA and CSMs of tradoc and one other command had an hour long Q&A where they mentioned of the 5 events you have to do 3 (don't recall which ones) and that instead of a 2mile for those on profile it would be bike, row, or swim. But making it an actual challenge as to still show fitness levels.
