Does anyone have any extra information on SFAB, other than the generic army.com details? How is it and what is it like?

I'm currently in Afghanistan with 2SFAB. The mission is great because you're not given a task and purpose by higher, you have an intent to work which allows you to be creative. The people are good because they had to try out so they want to be there and most of them are competent. You will get some great school opportunities. The biggest downside is it is staff heavy, due to all the reporting requirements. I have SSGs and SGTs writing reports that will be read by GOs. Every mission requires a 40-50 slide OPORD briefed to a COL or higher. Good writing skills are a must.

Great info. Thank you MSG. That shouldn’t be too bad, I was a Battle CPT for G3 in Hawaii so I’m used to that! It sounds like a good opportunity and fit. If I’m being honest I’m getting tired of the incompetence and unwillingness to be better here at the line. Having a better working environment with willing comrades sounds good lol.

MSG,
I am thinking of doing this as well once I'm halfway through my current tour in Italy, but I'm still on the fence with it. Love the mission and the opportunity to be able to work with other leaders from all around other MOS' outside of my own. My struggle with it is whether or not it will hinder me in making SFC, or if it will make me more competitive when being looked at.
What is your take on that?

SSG (Join to see) if your MOS has KD time just knock most of it out before you come to SFAB because this is a broadening assignment. If you dont have KD time, there shouldn't be an issue.
Most career fields have updated the Da Pam 600-25 smart book on milshite to show SFABs. Just follow that guidance.
For this last MSG list that came out SFAB had a 30% selection rate over the Army's overall 16% selection rate. However, boards results have not officially said they looked favorable on SFABs. The consensus is we have a higher selection rate because we run selection and are able to pick those that are high performers that would promote in secondary zone.

I’m currently assigned to 2BN 4th SFAB, and absolutely love it. The guys I’m with are ready to work when work needs to be done. Everyone understands the team mentality and isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty (ie 1SG/MSG cleaning weapons alongside everyone else). This is a unit that treats you like a big boy and doesn’t want to hand walk you through things, but definitely will take the time to teach you something if you don’t know it. Of course the opportunity to attend schools for your own professional development is awesome as well. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me.

This is just second hand knowledge, but i spoke to someone when i was looking into going there. One of my buddies went to the Fort Bragg SFAB and then deployed and picked up his 6, he said he absolutely loves it, the people there, the command, and the mission. Glad he went into it and seems happy thus far.
