When I was in S-2 in an ADA battalion many men required a Secret clearance just because of what Air Defense Artillery people did on a regular basis. It seemed like most of the guys in-processing straight from AIT had a Secret from AIT and getting the real world clearance would only take a short time with application and fingerprint card along with some form from the battery commander or XO. Things are likely different these days but I would imagine that with computers things would speed right along. It was the TS clearances that usually took some time. I still remember the FBI visiting my parents and some of my neighbors. That was funny.

Former 25R here. I believe it took me only two months for my clearance to come through (I'd have to find my ERB to be sure). I enlisted right out of high school though, so there was not much to go off of. I'm going to assume that you are looking to enlist as a 25R?
