Always be safe. Really know your job. Be in tip top shape to prevent injuries, Especially back and joints. This MOS is not forgiving. I've handled Ammo only as labor. Loading and unloading. It's the repetition and combined weight. Storing Ammo. is not like storing beans. Their are certain rules that must be followed. You don't learn them in one day As a L/cpl. in the Marine corp on Okinawa we were responsible to the Captain of the ship to see that the Ammo was stored properly according to Op5 Vol.3 a cost guard manual. We wore Ammo Tech Arm Bands we had an infantry working party sometimes a Lt. was in charge of the working party. When it come to loading ammo we had more authority than the officer did. Not everyone is going to stack boxes. Usually when someone came Infantry, Artillery they provided the working party . The Ammo Tech. supervised the Handling of the Ammo. At ammo Tech school we also learned to set off demolition charges. I rarely worked in my MOS. In the Army I was an Armorer, supply clerk, Supply Sgt. I went to the NCO. Leadership Acadmy and CBR school. Back then Marine corp 59-63 Army 63-66 it was next man up. Semper Fi. The town outside is like living in the Korea Demilitarized Zone, but the base is good. Richmond is a city of 1.5 million with lots to do, and Virginia Beach and Washington, D.C., are not far away. The Marine detachment is as “Marine” as you’d expect at any Marine base, and we still look after our own. I came for a single tour, and and wound up getting entrenched, and here I am, settled in central Virginia for 13 years. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay. That's where I trained for 2311 back in 1968. Good duty station and great experience. Huge base. Good MOS, exciting at times especially when I was in Vietnam. Saw a lot of action as I was assigned to LZ way up North. LZ Stud--Vandergrift Combat Base. Attacked almost daily. Still have PTSD from my Vietnam time though.
