My future options for 18A O-4 and higher positions in the Florida guard are small enough to count on one hand. I am interested in exploring DIMA positions, but since they are through the IRR and Reserves, I would like to hear someone's personal experiences before I decide to leave the guard.

I had a friend do IMA with USASOC and he said it was a very rewarding experience. It gave him a lot of flexibility too. I know that he volunteered to support certain exercises for example, and was able to have a lot of control over his schedule.

Feel free to reach out to me if you are interested. We have an 18A O-4 DIMA billet at USFJ, Yokota AFB. I came from the Guard side as well. The conditional release takes a while, but once you're in it's a pretty good program.

Sir,
The options for field grade SOF ARNG officers are limited. The facts are there are only so many positions at the top of the pyramid. This means most officers have to migrate over to staff positions in the SOD or leave a SOF billet and do time in a conventional assignment. Most reserve 18 series officers serving in the IMA or in a TPU position within the SOF Commands migrated over from the ARNG. The transfer among reserve components was seamless and I agree with Major Weiss statement that many officers were assigned to augment the various SOF commands in challenging staff position and career broadening assignments. Also worth mentioning is that as an added benefit most of this experience counted as joint time as well as airborne duty.
