They&#39;d go for O-2 (common) for a Masters and O-3 (very rare) for a PhD, BUT had to be in the Hurt Locker for filling billets. If the normal flow of BS types was doing OK, there wasn&#39;t a problem that needed to be solved, hence why? I saw those programs come and go with the need for both active and reserves. Reserves tended to be &quot;fat&quot; at the O-3 level mostly because of the AD bail outs due to FOS to O-4, or they preferred a civilian career first, spouse beat them up to get out, whatever. Bottom line, I&#39;d presume it&#39;s feasible, but is it needed to solve a body count problem? So my question to the Body Shop side would be how&#39;s the manning at the O-2/3 level for 70Bs?<br /><br />I&#39;ll add an edit and that has to do with the long game. What are the professional/educational pedigree items for O-4? If a suitable graduate degree, credentials, etc. come into play, you can be a less risky bet for meeting the needs of the future. For AD, they loved it because they didn&#39;t have to pony up Grad School and had you for another 2 years in a productive billet. Don&#39;t know how reserves look at it. If the community is getting the stuff they need because it&#39;s needed for Civ advancement, it&#39;s likely a neutral. I&#39;d look into that as well. I was approached to do direct commission when I was Reserve side and would have been handed the PL slot for my own platoon...that just sounds like a minefield, but I digress. I guess it shouldn&#39;t surprise me that on the Reserve side, advance degrees will allow for a higher pay grade than O-1 in certain fields, but I never considered that. Probably because I never seriously considered going from E-5 to O-1, which would have been my option.<br /><br />As an E-5(P), you sure you want to go officer? As a retired MAJ in the Army Reserve with my last assignment as a Health Recruiter I believe I can answer your question. For our purpose of answering your question of establishing the pay grade for medical AOCs, OTSG (Office of the Surgeon General) uses constructive credit to establish the pay grade of a health care provider applicant. This is where an individual is directly involved in providing care to a sick or wounded patient. A higher pay grade is offered based on years of medical or dental education from an approved institution, a degree, and years of experience in the field they are commissioned for. A 70B Health Service Administrator is in effect a leadership position and constructive credit is not used.
