I remember a time when 18D was a WO position, and they changed it to an officer position (and you could only go as high as CPT - that is if you went to PA school after serving on ODA team for 2 years). Otherwise, it was just an enlisted position (circa 1992 - so I'm sure things have changed). SGT Charles W. So to be considered, you must be a Special Forces enlisted soldier on a team for a few years first.
* The SF Warrant Officer is a great job... it allows you to stay on an SF team for many years and be the continuity in its officer level leadership.
* The SF Warrant Officer is the second in command of an SF team, and normally leads elements when there is a split team operation. The strength of the leader and relationships with the Team Sergeant will play into this.

SF Warrant Officer has got to be one of the jobs in the Army, but you shouldn't go into Special Forces for the purpose of becoming a WO. There is simply too much variability. If you want to go Special Forces, it will be hard enough as it is just to make it as enlisted, and you may also decide that you prefer to stay on the enlisted side and be a team sergeant anyway. So bottom line is, if you're interested, see the nearest SF recruiter and learn more about the enlisted route first. This means when you are eligible you have to go to selection and be selected, then pass all the phases of the Q-course. Then you go to a SF Group and serve on an ODA for a minimum of three years, perform at a high level, stand out amongst your peers, and get recommended by your Company, Battalion, and Group Commander to become a SF Warrant Officer. Bottom line, you have about 7 years of hard work before you can even consider it, so worry about being an awesome enlisted soldier and putting yourself in a position to achieve this goal.

Also, as a SF Warrant Officer I'll provide you with a bit of mentorship. When you type Special Forces Warrant Officer in a google search the first link is the one I posted above. Therefore, I would not include a statement like I am looking for information and can't find anything. RallyPoint is a great place to confirm and ask those really pointed questions, but do good research both on and off the site. As a SF soldier, and especially a SF Warrant Officer, you must be resourceful and posses the ability to operate autonomously. Good luck with reaching your goals and please do not hesitate to reach out to me on RallyPoint when you start thinking about selection.
