As for the AIT atmosphere...hopefully a new graduated soldier can answer that for you. UGH! Rite now its hot and humid here at FLW so be prepared. Classes are not far from the barracks and the course area is not far from MWR sites, make sure you brush up on your math skills, basic algebra is what I remember folks having the most problem with. Pretty much everything you will be doing is math centric. Soils analysis, concrete design, drafting, and surveying.
The PT program was pretty good and challenging as late as last fall, the 1SG was one of my former Soldiers in a previous unit. I do not know the current 1SG.
Prior service Soldiers train with the initial entry folks but are separated for after hours and sleeping. You'll be assigned barracks with all the MOS-T prior service guys away from all the privates. You'll show up for PT at 0445, do PT and then you'll be free around 0545 until course starts at 0800. You can go to the PX instead of the DFAC for lunch. After course you're free to so what you choose. I know that you're allowed to have a car on post as well.
