SPC Jason Lunsford 3995475 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I applied to get my reentry code upgraded from RE-3 to RE-1 due to a fracture I received while training at Parris Island. I received a docket number about 3 weeks ago and it took about 3 months to get that. I am just curious as to if anyone has any insight into the process and how realistic the wait time would be. Does anyone here have experience with Board for Correction of Naval Records? 2018-09-25T21:50:24-04:00 SPC Jason Lunsford 3995475 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I applied to get my reentry code upgraded from RE-3 to RE-1 due to a fracture I received while training at Parris Island. Call [login to see] , and ask the VA toll free staff about the discharge review board (DRB) traveling teams, I&#39;m fairly sure try exist, just as there are traveling teams for the Board of Veterans Appeals (NVA). Now understand, you might still need to file a DD Form 149, I think the upgrade one is the DD Form 295 or something like that. Also, you&#39;re gonna need to try to call your VA Regional Ofc. (VARO), which can often he quite hard to get through to, not impossible, just hard, so you&#39;re gonna need to be really patient, I assure you, as your whole thing is likely to take a long, long time...never ever try it without a vet group or attorney, or a law school vet law clinics, though the don&#39;t take all cases...lemme send you this, then I&#39;ll send something else, OK? <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default"> <div class="pta-link-card-picture"> <img src="https://d26horl2n8pviu.cloudfront.net/link_data_pictures/images/000/328/722/qrc/214.jpg?1537939290"> </div> <div class="pta-link-card-content"> <p class="pta-link-card-title"> <a target="blank" href="https://www.military.com/benefits/records-and-forms/discharge-review.html">Discharge Review Boards</a> </p> <p class="pta-link-card-description">Veterans can have their military discharge conditions reviewed and possibly upgraded by requesting a review.</p> </div> <div class="clearfix"></div> </div> Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made Sep 26 at 2018 1:27 AM 2018-09-26T01:27:25-04:00 2018-09-26T01:27:25-04:00 Capt Daniel Goodman 3995876 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a target="_blank" href="http://www.vetadvocates.org">http://www.vetadvocates.org</a><br /><br />Look through this, other than the vet groups, which all have law forms ter use for really complex cases, NOVA is, we:d found my wife and I, to be the best...being as yours might not he a disability case, I gather, you might find a vet group cheaper, though more time consuming, as it&#39;d be free, I&#39;d expect, VA qualified attorneys only typically take contingency fee cases for long term disability stuff, where thee expect a fair returnz that was how we did my whole thing, we started with a vet group, they were overwhelmed, we moved to a NOVA guy quite senior in their world with three uywrs prior active and 35-40 urs of BA law experience, so we lucked out...the BA DRN traveling teams, I think, could let you actually see those you&#39;d need to appeal it to, ultimately, near you, without travel, it can be done by video to the whole board in DC, or also by mail, as well, however, traveling teams, we found, were nest, when we did my thing, it took six and half years total, incl seeing a BVA traveling team judge, then waiting a year for the basic approval, and another year for the final total perm disabled upgrade...DRBs I&#39;m unsure how they differ, that&#39;s why you need a vet group, either at a VARO, as I had to actually see to file with, or done at town or county level, depending on where you are...and for Gd&#39;s sake, tell all three Congress offices all of it, you&#39;re gonna need to speak with their vet staffs, all of those are local, don&#39;t call the DC office, those are piely policy staff, local claims are handled by local staffs at local offices, fle with the House member, and bhth Senate offices, you&#39;re gonna need to do Privacy Act releases before tell even do !ore than speak in the phone, it:s law, time consuming, however, required, trust !e, been there, done that (BTDT), OK? I hope all that helps, if you want to know more, ask, I&#39;ll try to explain as !much as I can albeit purely from the user standpoint, I&#39;ve never been formally trained for it, we&#39;ve just been throughpretty much all of it, which is why I can explain as much as I have in that level of detail, OK? <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default"> <div class="pta-link-card-picture"> </div> <div class="pta-link-card-content"> <p class="pta-link-card-title"> <a target="blank" href="http://www.vetadvocates.org">Home</a> </p> <p class="pta-link-card-description"></p> </div> <div class="clearfix"></div> </div> Response by Capt Daniel Goodman made Sep 26 at 2018 1:38 AM 2018-09-26T01:38:55-04:00 2018-09-26T01:38:55-04:00 Capt Daniel Goodman 3995879 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>And also, for God&#39;s sake, save ever piece of paper, scan it in somewhere onto a hard drive, flash drive, and/or email it to yourself, preferably as Adobe Acrobat PDF, at minimum JPEG format, though PDF is easier to use, I&#39;d found, more commonplace, get a big box, folder, organizer, what he you, get all your records from NPRC in St. Louis, part of NARA, the Natl Archives, get your sdmin stiff with all your performance styuff, and also all your clinical staff, !ed/dental, all of it, just save yourself the time and trust me, get it, you&#39;re likely to need it all anyway, sooner or later, whether now, or eventually, I assure you....
