Ask you GtG rep and your Commander about those. They are called "Hip Pocket Scholarships." MAJ Bryan Zeski Mon, 24 Sep 2018 19:54:51 -0400 2018-09-24T19:54:51-04:00 Response by SrA John Monette made Sep 24 at 2018 7:59 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/does-anyone-know-how-competitive-the-green-to-gold-4-year-scholarship-program-is-or-has-been-through-the-process?n=3992034&urlhash=3992034

I can't say anything positive or negative because I have no idea. best of luck in your endeavors and remember, the army runs on enlisted, so if you don't make it this time around, keep trying. Remember when you get the ROTC Scholarship you can go to any college with an Army ROTC program so look into what schools your thinking of attending too! I'll also add look into the University of North Georgia. They have a great reputation amongst their peer Senior Military Colleges as well as a great Nursing Program as well as Pre-Med! And only 20-30 min away is an OD Ammo Reserve Company in case you wanna continue serving earning money in the reserves while attending school! Best of luck in all your future endeavors! They keep you on active duty to get your degree. Green to Gold is nice, but when you can stay on AD, get paid, and accrue leave, why would you get out? It is a scholarship program just like GtG. Only requirement is that you have to be within 100 miles of an MTF, such as San Antonio, Austin, Columbia, SC, Washington, DC, or Seattle, WA. PM if you need more information. Here’s the deal though, if you accepted into a college don’t worry about your SAT or HS GPA. For you the focus is gonna be how you have performed so far in the military. There is a need for nurses. Since we went through the Officer Separation Board in 2015/16, we lost a lot of good nurses. And as the clock hands move, now we realize as a whole organization that we do not have enough nurses anymore. My advice is to apply. It varies yearly whether enough people apply for GTG scholarships. So go into it believing you will be selected and you might just be suprised. It is important to note that there are the Division Commander Hip Pocket scholarships, which can be either highly competitive or completely unused, but there are also scholarships awarded directly from Cadet Command which, while competitive, are not overly hard to get.

I highly recommend that you go to your local education center and seek out the Green to Gold recruiter. There are typically briefings once a week or so and they can lay out all of your options, as well as give you the exact demographics for the previous year (IE what GPAs, SATs, and APFT averages).

If the Green to Gold brief is unable to provide you with the statistics, or you have more questions, feel free to reach out. It's a terrible deal. Knock out your prerequisites for the Nursing AECP so you can go to school on Active Duty, as opposed to being a poor college student on a 4 year scholarship. Plus, you can use those two years of college to raise your GPA and be more competitive.
