got a lead from a few friends still in that they might be doing a recall. One of them said his retention NCO informed him they might be stop-lossing his ETS packet, in preparation for something. I want to get past the anecdotes and see if anyone in the community has any proof of this. Is it hysteria or are there some facts?

The Army and Marine Corps actually started recalling back in 2009 under the Obama administration to help with troop shortfalls.

After doing some searching on the web I have learned that members of the IRR do not fall under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) until they report to the evaluation for activation. After being discharged from the military, Veterans are bound only by civilian laws, and there exists no civilian mandate that states must monitor and track the whereabouts of IRR members for the federal government. This means that the military has no formal judiciary measure for bringing criminal charges against an individual that ignores orders and fails to report once they are a VETERAN.

Now personally I would not encourage nor recommend anyone ignore a recall and to be perfectly clear, it would be misleading to say that the Pentagon has no recourse to well GET YOU. Be clear on that!

Sounds like a scare tactic to get someone to reenlist. Do you honestly think some retention NCO would have inside info that isn't already known by everyone? It really sounds like the usual fear mongering they resort to when their numbers are low. I had one tell me that I would be recalled if I ETSed. I laughed at them because I was already over my 8 years by that point lol.
