Most companies will just take your application, a few won't, and then there are those few where you'll end up interviewing on the spot. Of course, it really depends on what you're looking for. This is kind of a "shotgun" approach, but IMO far more successful than broadcasting electronic resumes & applications. <br /><br />There are two reasons I give this advice: First, the percentage of jobs that are available, but not advertised on the web is fairly high. Second, on job search sites, a lot (not all, of course) of those that ARE advertised are placed by recruiters/HR simply as fodder so they can tell the company that they reviewed "X" number of resumes in order to find these few choice candidates.Response by SGT Richard H. made Sep 16 at 2014 8:48 AM2014-09-16T08:48:02-04:002014-09-16T08:48:02-04:00MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca243091<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>LinkedIn.com gives you the opportunity to post an "enhanced" resume via your profile and connect with recruiters and colleaguesResponse by MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca made Sep 16 at 2014 8:53 AM2014-09-16T08:53:18-04:002014-09-16T08:53:18-04:00CPT Richard Riley243132<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>There are a multitude of suggestions throughout the Resources for Veterans & Service Members thread started by <a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="2583" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/2583-16px-political-military-affairs-strategist-saf-ia-secaf">Col Private RallyPoint Member</a> that can be found here: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/resources-for-veterans-service-members?c=1&page=6&urlhash=243120#243120">https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/resources-for-veterans-service-members?c=1&page=6&urlhash=243120#243120</a> <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default">

Not to label all of them but many of them have not had a career in the private sector and don’t know how to sell your resume to an employer. Anytime you can find a recruiter from a company that has a job you want, contact them. See what they say. Use LinkedIn to shine and reach out to recruiters. Send your resume to someone in HR and ask for help in making your resume shine.<br /><br />You need to understand that many private-sector companies don’t understand a military resume. Don’t assume that because you’re military, they want you. If you feel that you are qualified for a job position, submit! Your resume needs to correctly portray your skills and experiences for that position. I would recommend that you go to the virtual job fairs through veteranrecruiting.com. There are over 20 organizations that participate with military advisors and probably the best way for you to make some contacts with organizations that you are interested in. If I hadn't talked to them while visiting on leave I would've missed some big details. I was told that, although not listed as requirements on their web page, they rarely hired someone if they didn't have 1) prior military experience (SF/MP not necessary), 2) at least an Associate's degree, and/or 3) passed the law enforcement qualification test (which would be required anyway before being fully accepted). I had 2 of the 3 & would've had to get the third so it didn't bother me, but it was an eye-opener when it comes to job hunting.<br /><br />Also try to think of ways to creatively market your experience. If you can get the attention of the person hiring, and interview well while being willing to pick up what you don't know quick enough, you could possibly get a job even if it doesn't line up perfectly with your current experience portfolio.Response by MSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 20 at 2015 3:10 PM2015-10-20T15:10:55-04:002015-10-20T15:10:55-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member1053468<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Go to USAJOBS.GOVResponse by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 20 at 2015 3:46 PM2015-10-20T15:46:44-04:002015-10-20T15:46:44-04:00LCDR Private RallyPoint Member1053582<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Go to indeed.com and upload your resume - I'm constantly getting offers for employment.Response by LCDR Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 20 at 2015 4:41 PM2015-10-20T16:41:33-04:002015-10-20T16:41:33-04:00PO2 Peter Klein1054254<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Indirectly LinkedIn. I don't know which state you are in but I get announcements daily see if this site will help... <a target="_blank" href="http://agency.governmentjobs.com/savannah/default.cfm?action=jobs&sortBy=&sortByASC=ASC&bHideSearchBox=1&PROMOTIONALJOBS=0&TRANSFER=0&SEARCHAPPLIED=0&printPage=1">http://agency.governmentjobs.com/savannah/default.cfm?action=jobs&sortBy=&sortByASC=ASC&bHideSearchBox=1&PROMOTIONALJOBS=0&TRANSFER=0&SEARCHAPPLIED=0&printPage=1</a>Response by SFC Eugene Johnson made Oct 23 at 2015 1:35 PM2015-10-23T13:35:11-04:002015-10-23T13:35:11-04:00A1C Brian Sprick1061828<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Indeed.com works best for finding a temporary job, but unfortunately boots on the ground to find a better paying job is still the only way to progress. The better paying jobs don't have a high turn over rate, so they don't need search engines online to find the next employee. Hope that makes sense. Focus on saving every dollar, get to know people at a potential employer, and get an education even if that means a technical degree.Response by A1C Brian Sprick made Oct 23 at 2015 8:56 PM2015-10-23T20:56:47-04:002015-10-23T20:56:47-04:00SGM Private RallyPoint Member1062105<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you have (or had in the last two years) a security clearance, I suggest clearancejobs.comResponse by SGM Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 23 at 2015 10:49 PM2015-10-23T22:49:25-04:002015-10-23T22:49:25-04:001SG Nick Baker1062191<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>No matter where you find the job advertised, go to the company website and see if the job is posted.Response by 1SG Nick Baker made Oct 23 at 2015 11:18 PM2015-10-23T23:18:01-04:002015-10-23T23:18:01-04:00CMSgt Wilson Edgell1064083<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Josh,<br /><br />I would advise you to look at the company websites. Make sure to add your Linkedin URL to your resume. As for job searching sites, I prefer Indeed, Careerbuilder, and Monster. You might try USAJobs, but I never had any luck on that site.Response by SPC Joseph Plunkett made Nov 12 at 2015 10:34 AM2015-11-12T10:34:00-05:002015-11-12T10:34:00-05:00PO3 Bob Walsh1210316<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>SrA Joshua Hagler, Last week I bought a new cell phone from ATT, in the literature ATT was promoting their program of employing Veterans.
