I am looking to supplement my income once I arrive at Fort Drum in January. Does anyone know of specific part-time jobs available in the area?

Wouldn't your command have to approve any sort of secondary employment prior to starting anything?

SGT (Join to see) - The answer to that question is yes and to your BAH situation there is affordable housing up here including on post to where the cost is much less in the older housing. In addition, it's not the Army's problem if you chose to purchase a house when you know that being a soldier requires you to move more than the normal person. I would encourage you to speak to housing ASAP to see if they can help you. But do not hold your breath with your command by giving you time during the workday to work somewhere else.

Respectfully, SFC, the problem is not that I purchased a home. Whether I'd be paying a mortgage or rent here in MD, my family still has to stay here due to custody laws. I would still have to maintain two residences. However, this weekend I secured secondary employment here in MD that I will maintain until I move to NY to bolster my savings. This company has another location in Watertown as well; so, provided my CoC allows me to have secondary employment at Drum, I will already have a job to walk into.

SGT (Join to see) I sincerely hope it works out for you, and if you have the opportunity then go for it. just make sure you bring it up to your CoC as soon as you get here. It's about two-three weeks worth of in processing and mandatory classes. The ACS here is pretty good, get with them too. Good luck.

first and formost moonlighting has to be approved by the command, the economy in ny sucks, especially upstate, custody laws, i'm sorry been there done that, not wanting to get into your situation but, you have to consider career and family, what is more important, i will jump out on this one if you dont have custody, and are paying child support what will give your children a better chance, i've been thru it twice, i love all my kids but they did better with their moms because i was always gone, i;m a father not a mother so i understand the craziness good luck ft drum is a beautiful place, i suggest the 1000 isle tour

SGT Cole, I am doubtful you'd find the time. Our optempo is unlike most other conventional units. We have a brigade forward deployed, some units getting ready to head over as well and all the while supporting training back home and tying in with our units forward. In short, you will be very busy in garrison. If you are still determined to find something there are stores that always have openings.

I used to be the sales manager at the best buy in Watertown. We employed a lot of soldiers (& their spouses). I'm pretty sure you have to okay it with your unit but we had no problem working around a soldiers schedule.
