Does anyone know the difference between the Old Corps and the New Corps?

Hell yeah! The Old Corps was tough! You ain't old Corps unless you've been to a real Captains Mast, where you were tied to the mast and received your lashes like a man. Notice I didn't say woman - no women allowed on ships in the Old Corps! No way women could do men's jobs back then!

Cpl Bernard Bates As long as there is a Marine Corps, there will be Marines. Once a Marine, Always a Marine. Anyone that earns the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, is a Marine.

If I have one day more time in service than you - you are new Corps and I am old Corps. Take for example the original recruiting program back in late 1775. Samuel Nicholas was to recruit men into the brand new Continental Marines. The first man he dragged off the streets into Tun Tavern, he sat down and talked to him over a couple of pints. The man agreed to join and was told to wait outside. The next man came in a Samuel talked to him over a pint. The man agreed and was told to wait outside. Well, as men in ranks often do, the 2 men started comparing stories. The second man was so excited he said "and he even went so far as to buy me a pint!" The first man then said, "Well, in the old Corps, you got 2 pints!"

I'd guess it's just like the Army with references to old school Army. The "old" reference point is always the group that was in the service 10-15 years before you entered. For me,, I entered in 1977, so the old school was the Army of the 60s and early 70s. To them, we were the soft new Army. By the time I left in 1999, people were referring to the way things were in the late 70s and 80s as the tougher old school. Now on RP I chuckle when I read soldiers from today wishing they could go back to the tougher standards of the old school 2000s!

I suspect that the young Marines in 2030 will be asking about the Old Corps of 2018. The cycle never ends.
