Does anyone know the gambling regulations for the Army?

At my current duty station they have an on-post casino, and was wondering if I was able to go play responsibly, not in uniform-of course, off-duty. Some people are like you're not supposed to gamble as a soldier etc. Wheres the Reg? I know enlisted and officer gambling is a no-go but this is a full-blown established casino, and it would be me vs. the house. What do you think about this? yes or no

The AR you're looking for is AR 600-20, Army Command Policy. The chapter that deals with gambling between Officers and Enlisted is 4-14.c.3. (Latest pub date is 6 NOV 14)

You can gamble in a Casino, just not against Commissioned Officers.

The only sure way to double your money in a casino is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
Casinos get wealthy on their statistical advantage; if you are very good and play long enough you will give the house their percentage; if you are not so good you will give them far more.

SPC Just think of the people stationed at Nellis AFB. Many goes to town and enjoys Las Vegas, the food is good, they have good shows and I am sure many gamble. In Thailand in the back of the NCO club there was a gambleing room. Tough call to make.

I want to point out and say yes gambling can create problems with addiction and what not; on the other hand, I , don't have an addiction and as a human being , I want to enjoy myself on a evening out, playing a bit and returning back home. Posts on here suggest saving my money , articles etc. but that's not what I'm trying to ask. I'm just asking if there is a regulation regarding gambling as a soldier. Me vs. the house , not a senior enlisted/ officer

Best way to get the answer to this question is ask your command. While there may not be an actual Army regulation stating if you can or can not, chances are there will be a post memorandum stating if you can or can't.

If the casino is on post, I assume that it has command approval. Is it affiliated with the club system? ...MWR? ...private contractor? Your community command should have established and published guidelines for patronage. In any case, never gamble more than you can afford to lose.

My only advice bro, if you question the ethics or the rules. Don't do it. If you're still hell bent on doing it... Don't get caught. I've seen plenty of poker nights in barracks, both state side and down range. Use your better judgement.

Even the Army has a JAG office. A simple phone call to them will probably get you a valid answer with references. STAY AWAY FROM BARRACKS LAWYERS, even if they're on this forum!

Try the following regulation: URA-DUM-ASS. With that said, use a computer and type in "Army regulation on gambling". General Google will provide you an answer.
